Good Morning Everyone -
Amelia is expected to be taken in for marrow aspiration and spinal chemo between 10 am and noon. We're hoping for earlier, since she can't have anything to eat or drink beforehand, and might get a bit cranky! Because it is the weekend, the results won't be in until Monday. I will let you know as soon as we know!
Amelia and I talked about how her hair will start coming out soon (an unbroached subject thus far). She is pretty sad about it, but understands that it will grow back when she is healthy and no longer has leukemia. We went to Children's Place online and she ordered a pink sparkle cowgirl hat with an attached tiara. Her idea is that she can wear the hat while her hair is gone, and then the tiara when it comes back. Pretty smart, I think! I also told her that I read about a girl that had pretty henna designs painted on her head when she went somewhere special. We'll see if she is interested in this once it happens.
We are very pleased that Amelia is doing so well and responding to treatment. This will be a long road however, as she will be receiving outpatient chemo for the next 2 1/2 years to be sure that she doesn't relapse. School will be difficult, since she is immunosuppressed and will have to stay home when any one of the gazillion viruses that plague school-age kids is making its rounds, and activities will have to be scheduled based on her white counts. I just want to say again that your support through this is incredibly comforting for Amelia and all of her family, and we thank you.
