Recap

As our friends and families know, I have maintained a CarePage blog as a way to communicate to so many about Amelia's health. Her page has saved me hours on the phone (time is indeed precious these days) and has been invaluable in that regard. In order to get you, dear readers, up to speed on our lives over the past few months, I've chosen to repost some of my CarePage entries in the coming days. Following is one of my first posts, shortly after D (diagnosis) - Day:

 Ready, Set, GO

Amelia is adjusting to her new circumstances like a champ. She is motoring around the unit on a tricycle - with mom or dad scrambling to keep pace with her IV in hand. We're certainly not leading a sedentary lifestyle down here at BBCH!

Amelia has begun her chemo, and so far, so good. Kids of her age don't generally experience the side effects that adults sometimes face, so we are likely looking at pretty smooth sailing. We have been warned to increase our food budget, however, as the steroids will increase her appetite, and thus portions, to that of an adult man. As if she didn't have appetite enough already!

Molly and Corrina came to visit today, which was a great all-kid kind of day for Amelia to have. They raised hell on the wheeled vehicles, played Barbies, and watched "Fox and the Hound" together for most of the afternoon. Amelia is tuckered out, as this is the most action she's seen in weeks.

Stay positive! Our family is adjusting to a new "normal", and it is indeed a quick learning curve. We have had time to accept our situation, but fully recognize that those that do not see us everyday may still be in a bit of shock. If you have questions, do not hesitate to call. We feel that it is important for all of Amelia's loved ones to have complete and accurate information, updates, and a great attitude. She has set out on her journey back to wellness, and she will most certainly arrive - keep your thoughts happy, don't worry, and above all, do not doubt that our stubborn little girl will be completely successful in this and all of her endeavors! We love you all, and thank you for your well-wishes.
